stream-of-consciousness

Lady  Gaga all agog over presidents job bill. Pew Report says it stinks. EU says Obama’s Job Bill is a step towards joining the bankrupt European Union. Spend more and tax more is the answer?? How about spend less and reform the tax code? Wouldn’t that eliminate the deficit and reduce the debt? Isn’t that what we are all worried about? Obama doesn’t get it. Government tinkering with the economy has been proven to make things worse. Artificial means of adjusting the economy only postpone disaster. Let’s attack the root cause of our problem instead of throwing borrowed money at it. Yes, I know it is not Wednesday but I could not stop thinking about this subject. I wish that our elected officials would start thinking about what is best for the nation instead of giving away my money so they can be reelected. I am agog at the terrible results that would follow this Job Bill. EU and PU, what can we do?

  1. Dear Agog:
Never fear, Congress is here. The President wants to help. We’re saved!!
Only kidding. Actually, we’re screwed, but then we’re so used to that, it would feel exceedingly strange to experience any other feeling from government in this country.
It’s all a callous political farce. The President pretends to do something to buy enough votes to get reelected next November. The Republicans want to do nothing so as to deny those votes to the President (they aren’t likely to get them in any case). Neither side wants to do anything let alone something actually useful to the average Joe and Jane. It ain’t gonna happen. Get used to it.
The economy really needs to go into the dumpster good and hard. A real correction will follow only a real depression. Every time the feds interfere, they simply put off the inevitable and prolong the agony.
The Tsar isn’t worried about deficits; they will disappear like they always do when the economy starts running at top speed again. No, what concerns the Tsar is that normal might not happen this time. Our economy has been skewed beyond all reason by greed and corruption in the financial community, and by gluttony and fraud by the political class.
The free market is no longer free. It was captured and imprisoned by well-meaning but ill-considered government regulations, as well as Congressional gifts to campaign donors. Real competition is rare these days and largely confined to international commerce (the Chinese won’t collude with U.S. businesses).
You may have noticed that the lying has ramped up nationally? The President lies through his teeth on the campaign trail, and the Republican debates always produce a plethora of howlers. If you don’t believe me, then check out the myth-busting sites. Factcheck and PoliticalFact.
It’s hard to believe anything they say these days, but one thing is certain: This bunch is not going to give us the reforms we need.

  2. Dear PDF(pretty darn frank),
I wish I could scold you for being so pessimistic but I am afraid your are right. I miss the days when I could make fun of your cynical nature. Now, you are just a common cynic like the rest of us. We need Benjamin Franklin to come back from the dead to lead a new revolution.

  3. Dear Acolyte Optimist:
I’m sorry to hear that you have abandoned your innocence. You won’t be as much fun to tease. But, welcome to the club; I’m sure you will become a worthy member of Noptimists of FeroWorld. Wily old Ben was a tough customer all right but even he couldn’t move the PA legislature to reform. In fact the only change in how they operate since his days is in the number of new cons they are able to foist on the suckers of PA. Technology is such an enabler.
