THIS IS THE FUTURE AND IT BODES WELL FOR THE GOOD OF MANKIND

The value of a postgraduate education, no matter where it is gained, is shifting fast. We have passed the stage in history where what you learn in college will last a lifetime. After 15 years that learning is obsolete.

I just started a class at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and another one at the University of California. I am going to avoid becoming obsolete!

THE GOLDEN GLOBES AND THE ACADEMY AWARDS ARE BULL SHIT.

It starts with the parade of beautiful female movie stars entering on the red carpet. Most of them have spent approximately $100,000.00 on gowns, hair styles, cosmetic surgery (boobs, butts, tummies, noses, and lips). They are not real but look really sexy! The reporters always ask, “Who are you wearing?” The beautiful people answer with a fake smile and a condescending description of their famous designer. George C. Scott called this part of the show a ‘meat parade’. He did not show up for his best actor award because he thought the whole thing was bull shit. I agree with him.

The Hollywood awards shows are ridiculous, stupid, pointless and just plain wrong. The movie fans are not the judges. It is a select group of writers, actors, directors, producers, and executives doing an exercise in self-congratulation. Just because a film or actor has millions of fans across the country doesn’t mean it will equate to a win on Oscar night. That is too darn bad. Shouldn’t the people who go to movies be the judges? I think so. The less than entertaining ceremony, boring speeches, and over indulgent self praise is downright sickening! I say let the fans do the voting and limit the ceremony to one hour instead of 3 boring hours. JMO.

GREAT WRITERS OF FICTION ARE SUPERIOR TO SAINTS AND SCIENTISTS

A good author of fiction must be like god. He has to create a universe, a world, and a cast of characters. Then he must tell a creative story that is entertaining and useful. Many have tried but only a few have succeeded. Some of the best have been: Ken Follett, Stieg Larsson, Kurt Vonnegut, Isaac Asimov, Joseph Conrad, Graham Greene, H. G. Wells, Robert Louis Stevenson, and Anton Chekhov  Let me be obscurely clear, a word is not the same with one writer as with another. One gets it from his mind. The other pulls it out of his ass! For example, Chekhov said, “Don’t tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass". That is creativity.

The best teacher about life is experience but one lifetime limits your experience. You can avoid this limiting factor by reading the works of good authors. Well written novels provide excellent lessons about life. From history and psychology to the meaning of life, it’s all there in the famous novels of literature. Man as a novelist is superior to the saint, the scientist, the philosopher, and the poet. They describe what man is but never get the whole picture like the novelist does. The novelist gives a complete description of life in a similar fashion as does the Bible, which is the bestselling book of all time. They say it is the best story ever told, but the author is in dispute.

THE SOB'S IN WASHINGTON ADDED ANOTHER 4 TRILLION TO THE DEBT!!

“I have read the bill and can’t find the spending cuts — even with an electron magnifying glass,” said Representative Trey Gowdy of South Carolina. “It’s part medicinal, part placebo, and part treating the symptoms but not the underlying pathology.” “I personally hate it,” Representative John Campbell, a Republican from California, said of the bill. “The speaker the day after the election said we would give on taxes, and we have, but we wanted spending cuts. This bill has spending increases. Are you kidding me?”

Do you hear the sound of a tin can being kicked down the road again? Nobody seems to be talking about the fact that the so called 'fiscal cliff compromise' settles nothing. In several months the nation's debt ceiling will shut down the government unless it is increased. The coming battle in Washington concerning this huge issue will be even more fierce than the 'fiscal cliff debate'. My hope is that they will have to cut spending in order to reach agreement on increasing the debt ceiling. Is that too much to hope for? So far, our government representatives continue to be irresponsible SOB's! If you see one, shake your fist at him.
