ON PASTOR STEVEN NEWBERG’S 30TH BIRTHDAY

When he came to LCOL, they were unsure,

With all their needs, would a young man endure?

Two years without Preacher had been a disaster,

Challenges existed that called for a Pastor,

But he was in the springtime of his career,

Just barely old enough to vote and drink beer,

He was inexperienced and looked like a kid,

But rose to the challenge, it’s amazing what he did,

At age 30, entering the summer of his career,

Full of promise and success, I wish him a great year!

ANOTHER PERFECT DAY AT THE LAKE

Who is luckier_Prince George or me? The Prince was born into Royalty but I was born to sail on a lake on a perfect day in July. Besides, the English Royalty tradition seems wrong to me. Why should a person have instant wealth and privilege because of his parents? It is better to have to earn your own way into the world by laboring in the vineyard. I think that I am luckier than the Royals because I have earned my way into a life of leisure on a beautiful lake. Well okay, luck had a lot to do with it but it wasn't luck based on my parents. It was luck based on who I married!!

HELP FOR THE “HANDYMAN” ON THE NET

                                                                                  

I have always thought of myself as a self educated intellectual who is not good at home repairs.  I have never been mechanically inclined. However, I recently discovered that the Internet can make a hopelessly clumsy and unskilled man into a competent home repair genius! My wife and family are amazed at the things I can do just by following directions.

I plugged into my browser, “doorbell not working”. Up came a site that enabled me to diagnose the problem. It told me it was a faulty button that caused the problem. Then, it told me how to obtain a new button and how to install it. Now, the doorbell works perfectly! Then, one of my storm doors stopped closing. The Internet told me how to replace the closer mechanism and make adjustments. Now, it works just fine! Then, I plugged into my browser, “bifold closet door came off its track”. A site came up with simple instructions on how to fix the problem. Wow, I thought now I can fix anything. Then my central air conditioning stopped working on the hottest day of the year. I plugged this into my browser and a site came up that said, “call a mechanical contractor and get your checkbook out!”

DEVILS LAKE MAGIC

Once again, after an Arturo Fuentes cigar and a bottle of summer Chablis, I am feeling philosophical. What a great day we had on the lake. The Teets’ boys and Micah and Lisa are here helping Nancy and I to enjoy life at our lake house. How lucky we are to have such a great family. Soon, we will have more of the family here for our monthly family dinner. It is a family tradition that I recommend. You should consider implementing it for your family.

DO MEN GET WISER WITH AGE?

Yes, I believe they do. Anyway, I think I did. Even though my brain has slowed down, I feel that I have greater insight than when I was young. I find that I make less impulsive decisions based on emotion. Therefore, I have more wisdom. I am more willing to search for compromise and I recognize that there are limits to my personal knowledge. I am more aware that there is more than one perspective to a problem. Also, I have a better understanding of the nature of women. There are huge differences between men and women. 

For most men, sex is as important as breathing. This is not true for women. Romance is their big thing. When a man sees a good-looking woman, his I Q is lowered by at least 20 points. Women take advantage of this by using their natural assets as well as makeup, red lips, hairspray, fingernails, and uplifting, sexy bras. Women feel it is better to be looked over than to be overlooked. The average woman would rather have beauty than brains because the average man can see better than he can think! A foolish man tells a woman to stop talking, but a wise man tells her that her mouth is extremely beautiful when her lips are closed.

                                         

THE EVENING BEFORE SUMMER BEGINS

What a spectacular evening! An almost full moon shined down on me as I sat on my yacht moored in front of my cottage on Devils Lake. The purple martins put on an impressive air show as the sunset progressed through ever more brilliant colors. A warm, gentle breeze caressed my body with a tenderness that was like a massage from a loving masseuse. My mind wandered, thinking of how lucky I am to have the perfect wife, a loving family, and a few really good friends. Life is good and if there is a God, he has been kind to me. I am forever grateful for that! Oh yeah, and the wine and the fine cigar were exceptionally good. I am one lucky guy!
